Places You’ll Discover

Barron Falls Lookout

One of the most spectacular waterfall views in Far North Queensland. Your guide takes you to the best vantage points with the stories and natural history of this ancient landscape.

Barron River

A riverboat cruise along the rainforest-lined river through the heart of the Wet Tropics. Wildlife spotting from the water, a completely different perspective on the gorge.

Birdworld Kuranda

One of Australia’s largest free-flight aviaries, home to rainforest species from the endangered cassowary to parrots, lorikeets and finches. The birds fly free around you as you wander, and the cheeky ones will happily land on a shoulder.

Australian Butterfly Sanctuary

Australia’s largest butterfly flight aviary, alive with hundreds of tropical butterflies including the electric blue Ulysses and the green and gold Cairns Birdwing. Wear something bright and they may well land on you.

Kuranda Original Markets

The markets that made the village famous, trading since 1978. Local makers, rainforest produce, art and food, with real time to wander at your own pace rather than racing a bus schedule.

Kuranda Scenic Railway

One of Australia’s great heritage rail journeys, winding down the Barron Gorge through 15 tunnels and across 40 bridges on a line carved by hand in 1891. The gorge views on the descent are extraordinary, and your driver meets you at the bottom for the run home.

What Our Guests Say

Real reviews from real guests.

Thanks to David of Kuranda Day Trips, we had basically a perfect day in the rainforest. We are a family of three, with a 7 year-old daughter. When we decided to spend our holiday in Cairns, we looked up kid-friendly activities and found that Kuranda would be an excellent destination with Birdworld, Koala Gardens, the Skyrail, etc. The issue, though, was transportation. After consulting Dr. Google and other resources, we were extremely fortunate to find Kuranda Day Trips. The website is very intuitive and we inquired about the "Private Day Discovery" package. David responded promptly, and he politely and enthusiastically presented a sample itinerary with relevant options. We exchanged a few mails, and what impressed me is that David always replied quickly, but with no pressure or aggressive upselling from his side. Within a few days, David had created the ideal itinerary for us, including special VIP features that we likely could not have gotten on our own. Our day started with David picking us up from our Cairns hotel in his spacious, comfortable car. The day included, but was not limited to, private guides and VIP treatment at Birdworld and the Koala Gardens (with personal animal feedings and petting), a trip to the Barron Falls, the Butterfly Sanctuary, a riverboat cruise on the Barron River (saw four crocodiles, and numerous turtles, fish, and birds), lunch at an excellent restaurant, a loop on the scenic Skyrail, and more. David is a Kuranda resident, so he knows the area intimately and chauffeured us to our destinations without a wasted moment. The day went flawlessly thanks to David's expert arrangements. More than that, though, is that David is an exceptionally pleasant person who was a pleasure to be with. He provided local knowledge about the area and wildlife, and is conversant on so many topics. He is the type of person who wants to provide memorable service and to ensure that every experience is perfect. Plus, he was absolutely fantastic with our daughter. At the end of the day, she mentioned that spending the day with "Mr. David" was the highlight of her trip to Kuranda. It's possible that we could have enjoyed a day in Kuranda while left to our own devices. However, having Kuranda Day Trips make the arrangements, provide guidance, and comfortably drive us from place to place elevated the experience to the highest level. If you would like to spend a magical day in Kuranda and not have to worry about making arrangements and finding locations on your own, I would highly, highly recommend David and Kuranda Day Trips.

I got to know Clayton and David after they asked to use one of my bird photos on their website, and some time later they invited me along for a photography day. We headed west from Kuranda into the dry country, with an Australian Bustard as our first bird of the morning, followed by a mob of Black Kites gathered around a puddle. At Mt Carbine, we found a Tawny Frogmouth that sat tight and gave us the opportunity to really work the subject properly. Fifty-five species in five hours, and I came home with more than 3,000 images! What really made the day, though, was the guiding. Clayton knows where the birds are and, more importantly for a photographer, knows how to get you into position without spooking them. If you're there to photograph rather than simply tick species off a list, that difference is everything. An outstanding experience from start to finish. Five stars from me 🙌🤗!

David was a pleasure to communicate with. We advised him of our groups wishes and timeframe and he created the perfect Kuranda and area day for us. He responded quickly and while on tour he was very knowledgeable of the sites we visited. Our group of six was picked up right at the cruise ship port and toured in a brand new large vehicle. He even arranged a private guided tour of the rain forest and Barron falls by a local expert. In all a great day, would highly recommend Kuranda Tours.

My friend and I recently did this fabulous tour to Kuranda Village with Dave. I'm in my late sixties with mobility problems and my friend is in her mid-seventies. We desperately wanted to see Kuranda Village though but needed and wanted a shorter tour that gave us a more personable experience, and we certainly got that with Dave! Dave was such an exceptional and knowledgeable host and we highly recommend him. He was on time, reasonably priced, provided very comfortable transport as well as great, informative commentary throughout the tour which really gave us a much better understanding of Kuranda Village and it's surrounds and people. Overall, it was such a wonderful experience, but what really impressed us the most was that Dave truly looked after us. Due to our ages and my disability having that reassuring support and care meant a great deal to us.

We had a truly wonderful day with David. We were in Cairns for a week and we wanted to experience some of the areas outside of the town. David was a confident and very careful Driver, and great company. He drove us along a winding road through the Gadgrra national Park to the Atherton tablelands. We had a very special walk in the rainforest, with massive ancient trees and to make it more special. It was raining. Best way to experience a rainforest is in the rain. We had a lovely stop in a small town Yuungaburra and visited the amazing curtain fig tree. We would definitely recommend David as a tour guide, driver and an experienced local person who knows the area. He was amazing with his knowledge of the area and also the local Bird life. That was really interesting. Thank you, David.!

Kuranda day trip was an amazing experience, and a big part of that was our guide, Dave. He was knowledgeable, organized, and made the whole day run smoothly. He also helped us find great food and local spots at really good prices, which we appreciated. What stood out most was how fun he made the trip. We laughed a lot on the way to Kuranda, and his friendly, easygoing style made the whole experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this tour, especially with Dave as your guide.
